Russia and Lies

Training new Police Chaplains in Kiev

It is a very sad commentary on one of the most powerful nations in the world. It has been true for decades and perhaps even centuries but nothing changes through the leaders who insist on lying not only to the world but their own people. This was true during the Communist years and continues to this very hour. The country is Russia and the present leader is a man called Putin. He is quite possibly the most evil man on the planet as demonstrated by his love for Communism.

The situation in the world with attention on Covid, has given Putin the ideal opportunity to lie his way to within miles of the occupation of Ukraine. One of the favourite methods used in Russia is to cause unrest in neighbouring countries and claim Russians are in danger. Another trick is to send in agitators or as in the case of Ukraine, trained soldiers claiming to be freedom fighters. In 2014 this was accomplished with little notice by the west when the eastern part of Ukraine and Crimea was invaded and occupied. At last count 14000 have been killed in the fighting. I spent a week there in 2019 and witnessed the destruction and devastation these Russian terrorists inflicted.

Again, the method used centres on lying to everyone and hoping enough gullible people/politicians buy into the fables. In the US there is a weak President who has shown his inability to stand up to a bully and much of Europe is no better. Therefore we stand at the brink of a peaceful sovereign nation about to be invaded by an evil empire that wants us to believe NATO and the US are the aggressors. It is laughable but there will always be the dummies who believe and that is what Putin is counting on.

One however has to look at the big picture. My heritage is Estonian, and this and other eastern European countries used to be occupied by Russia after WW2 until 1991. My grandfather and 3 uncles died because of Josef Stalin, Putin's clearly stated hero. These countries, although part of NATO, border onto Russia and would be easy targets should Putin face little resistance in Ukraine. He will read it as the West not having the stomach to fight back.

While I was in Ukraine, I worked alongside their police. One young senior officer told me that his mother lived in the newly occupied east which was actually just one kilometre from where we stood at the time. He told me that as a policeman, if he tried to visit his mother, he would immediately be killed by the Russians. That is the fate that would await many political leaders, soldiers and police should Russia invade this time around. Just so happens to be the same thing that happened during and after WW2 in the occupied countries mentioned earlier.

So here we sit comfortably in Canada for example, where the biggest complaint is by those who don't want to get vaccinated or wear masks. The people that insist that our government is one step away from Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. Then they wonder why myself and the majority of others shake our heads in disbelief. No, our leaders are not trying to kill people: they are trying to save lives...but I digress.

Pray for the people of Ukraine and for that matter, the people of Russia. It's only a handful of Russian leaders that want war and it's all based on a lie: many lies.
