No News Cycle...Please!
It is commonplace to have sensational headlines in our news feeds and on TV that last a few days and are then forgotten. Mr. Putin is no doubt hoping that is the case when it comes to his purely evil actions in Ukraine. I am writing today to ask each of you to not allow that to happen...never!
What will the world look like when the war in Ukraine is over? How will the world view Putin. We already know that countries like China, India, Iran and others, will stand behind this delusional psychopath but how will the rest of the world look at him and all the Russians who supported him? My fear is that they will look at Putin and minimize the consequences of his actions, just like they have done for Russian leaders for almost 100 years. The precedent is there, staring us in the face.
Have you seen the carnage in Mariupol? Now the soldiers who were defending the steel plant have surrendered as requested by President Zelensky. Their fate is uncertain at best and it includes our friend who has served as police chief. Leaders in the Kremlin are going out of their way to get these heroes executed for "war crimes". It is laughable that Russian leaders are accusing Ukrainians, who are defending their homeland, as the criminals. Yet, most Russians believe the lies because very few Russians with power or influence, are brave enough to tell the truth.
That is why I fear the total lack of consequences for Russia. Sanctions haven't worked despite half-hearted attempts at wishy-washy "unity". Real unity with teeth has been lacking and all the well-wishes, verbal support and visits by world leaders, has not stopped the killing.
So will life go on as usual and will Putin ever face a war crimes court? What would that even look like? Does anyone actually believe Putin and his henchmen would willingly agree to be judged by the world? There is only one solution but wagging the finger seems to be the only punishment Putin will receive. I would love to be proven wrong but unless the West attacks Russia (which they are clearly afraid to do in Ukraine), how is anything they do going to have any relevance?
There are many in the world today that have no idea of the precedent I speak of. After WW2, Germany took responsibility for the evil of Nazi Germany. Russia was hailed as heroes for capturing Berlin and immediately allowed to enslave neighbouring countries which became known as the Soviet Union. There was no nice ending to the war in eastern Europe but the west didn't really care...until it was way too late. Do you see a pattern developing here with Ukraine. They were one of those countries occupied by the Russians after WW2. The only reason any of the other former countries under the Soviet Union might be safe, is because they are part of the EU and/or NATO. That chapter is still not completed.
Putin needs to be taken care of and I will leave it at that. There can be no more Putin in this world and how that is made to happen should be a priority in every EU country. The priority can never be: "how can we repair relations with Russia". I live in Canada and for the life of me I have never understood why we depend on any other nation for oil. Instead of listening to the "green earth" folks and the Natives who don't want us on their land, let's start producing more oil and other resources, both for us and other countries who have depended on Russia. Let's really squeeze Putin and their leaders instead of just talking about it. Yes, it will take a few years but my boys in Alberta agree that this can be done.
Eastern Ukraine is now feeling the brunt of Russian aggression as I write this. The eastern part of Ukraine is pretty well cut off from the rest of the country right now but to assume places like Kharkiv and Kyiv will not come under attack again, is foolish. Many have been in prayer and some of my friends have been going into Ukraine to help where they can. I was getting firsthand reports from Mariupol and other regions and that is why I don't want anyone forgetting about the evil that Putin has unleashed on this sovereign country. I have included some photos of before and after.
