What's With Social Media & Christians?

Something that seems to have been missed in all the rhetoric coming from various individuals is that social media has no "truth" filters. When you repost something from a so-called expert and that expert is quoting statistics about Covid-19 that totally (not partially) contradict reality, please stop it. You as a Christian are ruining the witness of the Church even as you think you are being "a voice of reason".

As you may know, I work in long term care as a chaplain. I have been told by some "mature" Christians that business owners and churches take priority over the elderly in long term care. The reason: "those folks are going to die soon anyway". One who didn't like the Premier of Ontario putting on restrictions, actually called for "civil disobedience". I hope both of these men have reconsidered their words.

What happened in Washington a few days ago was a direct result of people, even followers of Jesus, listening to social media comments by President Trump and others who keep insisting that the US election was won by Trump. Civil disobedience by followers (many White Supremacists by the look of it) should have opened the eyes of Christians that still supported Trump but apparently not all. The scary thing is that many of you reading this are in that camp and are convinced that I and the other 95% of Christians are the ones who are being fooled.

Logic is not an evil thing but those in that camp are treating it as if it is evil. I have been a staunch conservative my entire life and that is mainly because of the household I was brought up in. My dad believed the Beatles were a Communist plant to ruin the youth of America and that Martin Luther King was also a Communist tool. That was before social media even existed. I figured out on my own that these beliefs were wrong but I have always disliked left-leaning politicians for their policies that demand more government involvement. This however is not one of those times because I have personally seen what it has done to the elderly and now to everyone.

Yet some of you still hold on to the belief that politicians want the power and control. Every political party in almost every country acknowledge that this virus is real and it is deadly. I sure hope & pray that you and your family make it through this without a loved one dying before your eyes are opened.

    There is very little logic in most of the government restrictions being made as well. This I can't comprehend. I have actually been shocked at the lack of critical thinking in our modern society.

    Tim, when your source of information is from social media, you will never accept that people are getting vaccinated to prevent the government restrictions. The shock comes from those who have lost all discernment and totally ignore reality.

I thank the handful of folks that read my first instalment of my "weekly" blogging. It has become "monthly" since I did not get an overwhelming response the first time around. No News Cycle...Please!

It is commonplace to have sensational headlines in our news feeds and on TV that last a few days and are then forgotten. Mr. Putin is no doubt hoping that is the case when it comes to his purely evil actions in Ukraine. I am writing today to ask each of you to not allow that to happen...never! What will the world look like when the war in Ukraine is over? How will the world view Putin. We already know that countries like China, India, Iran and others, will stand behind this delusional psychopath but how will the rest of the world look at him and all the Russians who supported him? My fear is that they will look at Putin and minimize the consequences of his actions, just like they have done for Russian leaders for almost 100 years. Chaplains and Policing

Prior to Covid-19 and all the restrictions that have come with it, I would regularly head out for a ride along in the western part of downtown Toronto. I am a Toronto Police Service chaplain and over the past 18 years I have volunteered at three different times, with the present one starting in 2016. I wear a uniform but no weapons. I do however go to all kinds of calls riding with a different sergeant each time I go out on the road. In Toronto all divisions have their own chaplain. The province of Ontario has over 100 police chaplains and our backgrounds and religious affiliations are varied and thus we call it multi-faith by definition. We have just created the Police Chaplains Association of Ontario where our hope is to formalize the training for all police chaplains.
